Dog Gone Quilts is a small family business that is owned and operated by Sue Olsen, and her daughter Jody Olsen.

The idea for a quilt-related business came to us in 1997 - well before Dog Gone Quilts came to fruition. While working at The Quilt Stop in Reno/Sparks NV. Sue began creating a wall hanging per month. Over the course of 1997, she designed thirteen fabric art wall hangings - each featuring a holiday, local event, or popular outdoor activity. Examples of local events, captured on fabric, include Hot August Nights, the Reno Rodeo, and the Great Balloon Race. Sue created wall hangings for many holidays, including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Ground Hog Day and April 15 (tax day). Sue also created wall hangings featuring snowboarding and Ultimate Frisbee - two popular sports in the Reno area. Sue often displayed her fabric art creations at The Quilt Stop. People loved them, and began to ask whether patterns for the quilts were available.

Jody has desktop publishing experience, and prepared instructions for making Sue's wall hangings. She also prepared pattern covers, fabric lists, and other pattern materials.

The name of the company comes from Sue's two Airedale Terriers - Riley and Patches. The dogs have since passed on, but their loving memory will live on in Dog Gone Quilts. Sue's son, Jason, came up with the company name and often provides creative ideas. Sue's husband, Carl, helps out by folding patterns, picking up blueprints, and providing support and encouragement. Therefore, as you can see, it is truly a family enterprise!
